8 Tips To Have A GREAT Spiritual Retreat At Home

After hosting monthly at home meditation retreats, here's what I do to make the most of a spiritual retreat at home:

  1. Find a quiet place that is comfortable. If you designate one place in your home for meditation, then every time you sit in that space, your mind and body will know that it’s time to go into a deep state. This makes meditation easier.

  2. Tell people not to disturb you. Put your phone on do not disturb, and put a sign on your door telling people to go away.

  3. Prepare meals ahead of time. You will be able to dedicate more time to spiritual practice, and you will not have to bring yourself out of the peaceful mood to figure out what to make yourself to eat.

  4. Choose the meditations and activities that you want to do ahead of time and create a schedule. In the monthly retreats that I host I try to have a theme. I find that when I have a focus, the energy flows more easily and freely and the attendees, myself included, receive more benefits. For example, if you are feeling lonely, you may want to have a heart opening retreat.

  5. Mix up the type of meditations that you do to keep things interesting and to practice maintaining the high consciousness state in different positions and while moving. Sitting, walking, lying down and standing meditations will help you to bring the bliss and peace of your meditations into every day life. Have a variety of different moods and music. If it feels right, practice, breath-work, mantra, prayer, visualization, hypnosis, mindfulness meditation etc. If all of the meditations that you choose are similar, it can be easy to get bored and distracted.

  6. Before you are planning to retreat, clean your space. Make it pretty and make it smell nice. If environment effects you strongly, create ambiance with candles or a Buddha statue.

  7. If you’re going to listen to music on YouTube, or you’re planning on coming to one of the online retreats that I host, it’s best to have really good internet connection and it’s so much better to use noise cancelling headphones. The difference in sound quality is amazing.

  8. The final tip I have for you is to treat the entire designated retreat time as sacred time. If you take a break and you have to run to the grocery store, try to bring the spirit of the retreat with you.

If you’d like to attend an amazing, online spiritual retreat, I host one every month. All the work of choosing the meditations and activities is done for you, and all retreats include a follow up course. You also get to download and keep the meditations. Check out the description below for more information.

I’d love to know if you’ve ever treated yourself to an at home meditation retreat, and I’d also love to know if you have any topics that you’d like me to talk about, so please comment below.
